Spinninfields With Lowry Matchstick Figures. 50x70cm Acrylic on board. Painted 2010.
SOLD
I thought it would be interesting to juxtapose the iconic, matchstick figures by now traditionally associated with old Manchester and it's landscape of dark statanic mills, factories and smoking chimneys as painted by LS Lowry, and set them within the gleaming glass landscapes of contemporary Manchester, to perhaps pose questions about the image of the city which still lingers today. Of course, there are some people who would say Spinningields is equally dark and satanic, depending on your point of view.
