Across the Bridge Where Angels Dwell

Instead of my usual cityscapes, I was recently commissioned to paint a picture of an Angel, something I’d never attempted before and I was quite pleased with the result. I tried to capture the energy it suggested to me above everything else and it was quite tricky as I usually paint in quite an abrupt, emotionally dynamic way and for this work I had to cultivate a more nebulous, delicate and ethereal approach, yet this on top of an initial, galvanic, guiding sketch. When I had finished it and was washing the brushes the name Sandalphon came into my head so I presumed that was the angel I had painted or else that was the first angel I thought of, depending on what you prefer to believe. The pictures are of the finished painting on the easel in my studio and also on the wall of the client I painted it for who kindly sent it to me and gave permission to publish it here.
